    • Natural: Fresh flowers such as roses, jasmine, marigolds, orchids, and lilies are common, often chosen for their fragrance and cultural significance. Leaves, branches, and even fruits or currency notes can be incorporated.
    • Artificial: Garlands made from artificial pearls, beads, stones, ribbon, and plastic flowers are popular for their durability and long-lasting shine, often used for photo frames or as enduring keepsakes.
  • Design: They range in design from simple strings of flowers to elaborate, handcrafted masterpieces with intricate kundan work or gold and pearl embellishments. They can be simple or multi-layered, and customized to match event themes and colors.
  • Length: Ceremonial garlands vary in length, typically around 1 meter (3.3 feet) for general guests, while longer ones may be used for VIPs or dignitaries.
  • Occasions:
    • Weddings: A key element in South Asian weddings, where they are used to welcome the groom's procession (baraat) members and exchanged between the bride and groom to symbolize union and acceptance.
    • Formal Events: Used to honor guest speakers, officials, and other esteemed guests at various functions.
    • Religious Ceremonies: Often offered to deities or used to decorate idols and temples as a mark of devotion.
