Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage Kandy
The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is situated northwest of the town of Kegelle, halfway between the present Capital Colombo amd the ancient royal residence Kandy. It was well-known in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Wildlife Department in a 25 acre coconut property next to the Maha Oya River. The orphanage was at first founded in order to afford care and protection to the many orphaned elephants found in the jungles of Sri Lanka. In the year 1978 the orphanage was taken over by the National Zoological plant enclosures from the Department of Wildlife. And the elephants at the orphanage aren’t subjected to any form of stress, abuse or threat at all and are supported by a team of employees numbering to over 100 including a group of mahouts. The main aim of this orphanage is to stimulate a natural habitat to these elephants.
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic
Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple. On Wednesdays there is a symbolic bathing of the relic with an herbal preparation made from scented water and fragrant flowers called Nanumura Mangallaya. This holy water is believed to contain healing powers and is distributed among those present.
Royal Botanical Gardens
Royal Botanical Garden attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees.
Sita Amman Temple
Sita Amman Temple is a unique temple it has been made at the place where Sits Mata spent her days in the prison of Ravana approx 5000 years ago. It is also unique in a way that it is one of the very few temples dedicated to sita. This colorful Hindu temple is said to mark the spot where Sita was held captive by the demon king Ravana. It is a place where she prayed daily for Rama to come and rescue her. On the rock face through the stream are has the footprints of Ravana’s elephant. It is surely an historical place which will make you recall the epic Ramayana.
Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple
Enjoy the incredible views from the top of Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple. Built and maintained by the Chinmaya Mission, and devoted to Lord Hanuman, legend has it that the great Hindu god once visited the site of the temple. Inside, you can admire the famous 4.8 m (16 ft) tall statue of Hanuman, carved into a striking figure from black granite. Step outside to admire the small surrounding shrines and enjoy sweeping vistas over Kotmale Reservoir Lake. It was believed that Sri Hanumanji set his feet in these holy hills when he was in search of Sitaji. This grand temple is now a great monument where the 16 ft idol of Lord Hanuman is the Moola Murti.
Water sport activities ( at optional cost ) at Bentota
An island surrounded by sea, with many lakes and rivers flowing throughout the island, therefore water sports have gained popularity in Sri Lanka, especially in Bentota. A popular tourist destination city with its long Bentota River which opens into the Indian Ocean along the coastline of Bentota and Aluthgama.
Jet Skiing
It's one of the most exciting water sports ever - nothing beats getting out into the lake or ocean at high speed, with adrenaline rushing through you. The view of the beach and the waves are an added plus to the whole experience, as well as enough memories to last forever. Several sports centres offer you a Jet Ski on a rental basis and for a limited period. Sunshine Water Sports Center is one such venue that has jet-skiing facilities for rent and you are charged an hourly fee.
Diving / Scuba Diving
Diving is a completely different experience that many people love to do. Unlike all other activities, diving is not done throughout the year and is only done from November to May. There are large schools of fish under the water, in a variety and beautiful coral reefs. Diving academies can easily be located off the coast of Bentota, and they are ready to help you meet your expectations. They also offer lessons from beginners courses, junior courses for kids and advanced courses. To make the most of diving, most diving academies travel to Beruwala which is not far from Bentota.
Windsurfing
Bentota has a wide variety of windsurfing facilities, attracting amateurs and professionals from all over the country and the world. Seasonally, the best time to try it would be from November to April. Windsurfing centres and schools are always on hand to advise you when it comes to strong currents and other valuable information that you may need for reference. Compared to the rest of the popular windsurfing destinations around the world, it is much more affordable and worth every penny in Sri Lanka. It is a thrilling experience that no one should miss.
Snorkelling
Another fun activity to do is snorkelling, which is great for youngsters who are up for an adventure. There are professional guides who will help you on the snorkelling point. Tourists are allowed to swim in the expanse of the ocean and explore the underwater landscape which also includes a plethora of colourful fish and other extraordinary marine life. People are amazed at what they find because everything under the water is mysteriously hidden and secluded from the world.
Banana Boat/Tube Ride
Last but not least, Banana rides are the latest addition which is slowly coming and surely entertaining for all. A banana-shaped boat attaches to a ski boat at higher speeds and you can even fall from the boat which is more fun than riding. It is a great alternative to regular water-based activities. A maximum of five people are allowed on the ride and a per person fee is charged.

Pinnawala elephant orphanage
App. 55 miles from Colombo, off the Colombo – Kandy road is Pinnawela, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 65 now; including Baby Elephants brought from various parts, as well as some of the more than 25 babies born, as a result of the captive breeding programme. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by.Arrive in Kandy and spend the day at leisure.Dinner and overnight stay at Kandy hotel.\

Seetha Amman TempleThe kidnapping of Sita by Ravana (was King of Lanka) - meant that Ravana had to hide Sita in several locations. The Seetha Amman temple was named after the wife, Sitadevi, of Lord Rama. The structure was built on one of the exact sites where the demon king Ravana held Sita as his captive, in the Ashoka Forests of the region. It is believed that the Lordess used the stream by the temple and meditated by the rocks along the stream.
Hakgala botanical garden
Hakgala Botanical Garden is one of the five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. The other four are Peradeniya Botanical Garden, Henarathgoda Botanical Garden, Mirijjawila Botanical Garden and Seetawaka Botanical Garden. It is the second largest garden in Sri Lanka. The garden is contiguous to Hakgala Strict Nature Reserve.

From the past, due to the cruel activities of humans, there is a danger that turtles are facing extinction. These rare varieties of Sea Turtles are destroyed by man day by day. It is the duty of each and every one to take action to save these turtles from extinction for the sake of our future generation. Regarding this we started to save Sea Turtles in 1986 and up to now we have succeeded to attain the goal gradually.
Mangrove Boat ride in Madu River
Madu River or the Madu Ganga is one of the natures fascinating creations off South West coast in Balapitiya. Madu Ganga is a lagoon with hundreds of islands providing an idyllic setting for a well spent holiday and loads of authentic traditional settings. It may be one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka.
